The Marauders at home played a game of two halves against Bury St Edmunds 4th XV
The Marauders at home played a game of two halves against Bury St Edmunds 4th XV with the addition of Alan Coggin and Ian Wilkinson to make up the numbers and the welcome return of Kieran Calver after a year off for injury who played superbly ably assisted by Sam Butcher and Wilkinson.However the opposition scored two tries very quickly but Moby Turner responded by a trademark try by crashing over the line to score.Bury scored again but a try in the corner by fly half Lucas Bissett converted by Wilkinson reduced the deficit to 12-17.Turner went off through injury but as half time approached with Mistley down to 14 men, Bury with a penalty on the line after a knock on to score to bring their lead to 24-12.
Terry Regan came on as substitute to bolster the numbers in the second half assisted by Les Hockley who again played with a fierce determination. Regan was able to crash through the Bury defence to bring the score to 24-17.There followed a series of errors with Bury scoring twice from their faster backs and their lead increased to 38-17. However as with the 1st team ,the Marauders were not going to let their heads drop with Regan smashing through the defence to score again with a superb conversion by Wilkinson.At 38-24,the Captain Gary Booker who had worked tirelessly all afternoon also smashed through the Bury defence to score with support from Dougall Meston and Butcher who tacked at every opportunity.The match ended at 38-29 to Bury but in no way were Mistley disappointed with the result.
